Auriculo therapy

Auriculotherapy is a modern, evidence-based form of acupuncture in which specific points on the ear are stimulated to activate the body's natural self-regulating and self-healing processes. The method was developed in the 1950s by the French physician Dr. Paul Nogier, who discovered that the entire body is represented on the ear in the form of a reflex map.

When a physical or emotional imbalance occurs somewhere in the body, corresponding points on the ear may become sensitive or reactive. By treating these points, the related area or function in the body can be influenced.

How It Works

The ear functions as a reflex microsystem that is closely connected to the central nervous system.
When a point on the ear is stimulated, the brain receives a signal that can:

  • Reduce pain perception

  • Regulate stress responses

  • Influence organ and hormone function

  • Support emotional balance

Auriculotherapy is therefore not limited to pain treatment but can also support broader physiological and psychological processes.

VAS Diagnostic Method

In auricular medicine, both diagnosis and treatment can be guided by the Vascular Autonomic Signal (VAS). When a pathological ear point is stimulated, a subtle, measurable change occurs in the radial pulse. This reaction reflects autonomic nervous system activity and helps identify which points are relevant for treatment.

This allows therapy to be individually tailored and highly precise.

Indications

Auriculotherapy can be applied as a standalone treatment or as an addition to other therapies. Research and clinical practice show effectiveness in, among others:

Pain and musculoskeletal conditions

  • Acute injuries (e.g., sprains, muscle strain)

  • Joint pain and osteoarthritis (hip, knee, shoulder)

  • Frozen shoulder, tennis elbow

  • Nerve pain, shingles

  • Tension headaches and migraine

Functional and systemic complaints

  • Stress-related symptoms and burnout

  • Fatigue and sleep disturbances

  • Digestive and hormonal imbalances

  • Allergies

Behavioral and supportive care

  • Smoking cessation

  • Weight management

  • Support during addiction recovery / aftercare

Treatment Methods

Ear points can be stimulated in several ways:

  • Sterile disposable needles (removed after ± 20 minutes)

  • Small semi-permanent ear needles (ASP) placed under an adhesive patch and worn for several days to weeks

  • Laser therapy for a non-invasive option

The semi-permanent needles are discreet, water-resistant, and comfortable during sleep and daily activities.
